“We cannot direct the wind, but we can adjust the sails.” - Unknown
The winds of life can certainly blow in an odd direction and it can sometimes feel like life, with its circumstances, are out of our control. Every day things seem to be changing and it is in times like these that our creativity, our skills and abilities are challenged. It is easy to "go with the flow" and just "let it be" but challenging times call for resilience, determination and commitment to do the best we can regardless of the circumstances.
It is during the times of challenge that our character is tested, our diligence is challenged, our stamina is weakened and our resolve is drained. Challenges always produce a long list of things that we could complain about and it is difficult to focus on what we CAN do rather than fretting over what we CAN’T do.
“A smooth sea never made a skilled sailor.” - Franklin D. Roosevelt
It is during times of challenge that we explore new and creative ways to effectively perform our daily tasks. We find innovative ways to provide the best care for our patients and their families. There will be situations that we are not accustomed to. There will be circumstances that we have never had to deal with before. The wind will blow in strange directions, but don't be afraid to adjust the sails. Take courage to stare down the troubled seas. Make the changes necessary to get the job done.
Don't ever get tired of doing the right things!
Adjust the sails and keep sailing!
